Dear customers,

Today you are receiving the third issue of our Personal Care Newsletter for 2024. We are kicking off the second half of the year with part 2 of our CIRCULAR BEAUTY formulations. Let us introduce you to our new partner Bozzetto and find out more about the trend ingredient niacinamide. In the interview, our colleague Alexander Schulze tells you how he came to STOCKMEIER Personal Care.

We look forward to seeing you in person in Berlin!

CIRCULAR BEAUTY - Naturally performant!

The STOCKMEIER Personal Care Team has been supporting the cosmetics market with the CIRCULAR BEAUTY concept since the beginning of 2024. Whether at in-cosmetics in Paris, CosmeticBusiness in Munich or the numerous customer appointments, the presentation was very well received and continues to inspire many customers. In all discussions about this sustainable concept, we were always asked the same questions about the effect, texture and skin feel as well as the basic performance compared to conventional formulations. In the modern cosmetics industry, the performance of products plays just as important a role as their naturalness and sustainability and yet these questions show that the market does not really seem to trust its own innovative strength.
Research and development is orientated towards the various accompanying influences such as ‘free-from claims’ or circular economy considerations. Standards for natural and organic cosmetics have been established and it goes without saying that they are formulated in compliance with legal requirements.

The challenge lies in harmonising a formulation, taking into account the company's own desired and required conformities. Here we have succeeded in presenting an innovative approach and new possibilities. The combination of appropriate raw materials with modern technologies results in products that are both high-performance and sustainable as well as environmentally friendly and hardly lack a conventional formulation in comparison. Your customers can therefore enjoy high-quality care products that fulfil high performance standards with a clear conscience. We can answer the question without a doubt: the formulations are naturally high-performance!

Please let us know which standards and requirements you formulate according to. The SEPAWA CONGRESS in Berlin from 16.10.2024 to 18.10.2024 at the STOCKMEIER stand D624-627 is a good opportunity to discuss this topic in more detail in person.

You are cordially invited.
Your STOCKMEIER Personal Care Team!

STOCKMEIER - CIRCULAR BEAUTY Formulations, part 2

In the last issue, we presented three of our CIRCULAR BEAUTY formulations with various raw materials from by-products. In this section, we present four more innovative formulations from our 2024 formulation kit:

1. Powder-to-Liquid Hair Strengthening Shampoo - with 15 % upcycling ingredients

This cream-coloured powder transforms into a pearlescent shampoo when dissolved in water. The sulphate-free combination of sodium C14-16 olefin sulphonate, cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauryl sulphoacetate ensures excellent foaming and cleansing properties. The powerful active ingredient combination of caffeine and biotin supports natural hair growth. Inulin and betaine moisturise the scalp and hair and keep the microbiome healthy.

2. SPF 30 Shimmering Body Oil - with 10 % upcycling ingredients

The balanced combination of oils and emollients in combination with SPF 30 is quickly absorbed, protects the skin and gives it a sun-kissed shimmer. Nourishing ingredients such as squalane, apricot and grape seed oil moisturise the skin. The antioxidant active ingredients bakuchiol and vitamin E support cell renewal and stimulate collagen and elastin production.

In our tutorial videos, we show you how the shampoo and body oil were produced in our laboratory.

3. Natural & Strong Deodorant Cream - with 17.5 % upcycling ingredients

The combination of sodium bicarbonate and zinc oxide reduces the growth of odour-causing bacteria and thus prevents the development of perspiration odour. Selected oils and waxes such as shea butter and Kalahari melon seed oil provide lasting care for stressed underarm skin. The product meets the requirements of natural cosmetics and contains neither aluminium salts nor alcohol.

4. Exfoliating Body Scrub Sugar, Salt & Shell Powder - with 37.5 % upcycling ingredients

The different grain sizes of sugar, salt, sweet almond and olive stone granules create a pleasant feeling on the skin when massaged in and gently remove dead skin cells. Selected oils such as jojoba and almond oil provide lasting care and pamper the skin. Honey extract intensively nourishes and moisturises the skin.

BOZZETTO Group

AQUAE SSG a versatile emulsifier

We are delighted to have gained the BOZZETTO Group as a new partner for our personal care portfolio. This range of raw materials offers highly specialised excipients that are able to improve the properties of cosmetic formulations or transfer specific functions. Here is a first example:

AQUAE SSG (INCI: Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate)

A naturally derived surfactant with emulsifying properties in powder form. The pH value of the end product can be flexibly adjusted depending on the requirements of the formulation. Compared to other surfactants, the cleansing and foaming properties in rinse-off formulations are relatively weak. As a consistency agent, AQUAE SSG helps to improve viscosity and moisturises the skin and hair. Used as a versatile emulsifier in leave-on products, the raw material can be used to formulate a variety of textures from sprays and lotions to creams and gels. As a rule, the concentration used is between 0.25 and 5 %.

Are you interested in this emulsifier or other products from BOZZETTO?

Niacinamide

The power vitamin for skin and hair care

Nicotinamide (INCI: Niacinamide) is a form of vitamin B3 and offers various benefits in skin and hair care. This versatile active ingredient plays an important role in the skin's metabolism and is used to improve the skin barrier, reduce inflammation, minimise pores, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and even out skin tone. As the release of the active ingredient is highly dependent on the water content of the formulation, its properties are best utilised when used in leave-on formulations that contain plenty of water, such as toners, hair tonics, serums, creams, fluids and lotions. The recommended dosage is 2 - 5 %. The raw material can be pre-dissolved in cold water or added to the heated water phase. The pH value of the phase should not be below 5, otherwise nicotinic acid will form, which can cause reddening of the skin.

5 questions to ...

Alexander Schulze

Product Manager, Office Speciality Chemicals

1. How did you come to STOCKMEIER Personal Care?

I trained at STOCKMEIER Logistik as a freight forwarding and logistics services clerk and then worked in logistics for almost a year. In December 2023, I then moved internally to the Speciality Chemicals in the Personal Care team.

2. What is your role in the STOCKMEIER Personal Care Team?

It is the team that makes us all proud. Together, we have created important prerequisites.

Together with our field service team, I look after our personal care customers in the office in eastern, northern and western Germany. My responsibilities mainly range from active customer care and counselling to preparing quotations and processing orders.

3. What excites you most about personal care?

I am particularly enthusiastic about the variety of products in the personal care sector. The spectrum ranges from skin and body care products to hair care products, which makes my day-to-day work very varied. I am also fascinated by the special requirements placed on these products. Every product has to meet high standards in order to fulfil the individual needs of consumers. Another aspect that appeals to me is the visibility of these products in everyday life. You come across them everywhere.

4. What do you particularly like about dealing with customers?

What I particularly like about dealing with customers is the opportunity to build direct relationships and to understand and fulfil individual needs. I enjoy finding solutions that help customers and seeing how my support makes a positive difference. The diversity of customers and their concerns makes for a varied working day, and I appreciate the opportunity to tackle new challenges every day while utilising and developing my communication and problem-solving skills.

5. How do you balance your day-to-day work?

In my free time, when things are going well, I go to the gym three times a week before work to balance out my working day. After a break of several years, I've also started playing football at the club again.
